dan zero la favorite (60') digital video 2005

la favorite is a 60 minute continuous shot of a closed parisian café at night - it is about 3 degrees - you are hungry and you need coffee - you smoked your last cigarette hours ago...

lev manovich says that the early 1960s films of andy warhol (empire ; sleep) are "perhaps the only attempt to create film without language..."(1) and i wonder about that : is hope, or the potential - if not the promise - of redemption, language? if it exists within the frame is that language? if it is introduced into the frame without direction? without intention? so that it remains "a simple recording of an already existing reality - both to the viewer and to itself..."
